I haven't seen any documentation for that part of the thunderbird api so will need to do some digging. The reason I moved to the tab interface was because most people don't have sufficient screen space to display all the information thats available. I've tried to make the front tab representative of the most important and recent information is available up front. For me it would be nice if the adressbook images would be used or if I could attach pictures from my hd as my folks dont do social networks. And I prefer the view without tabs as I now have to click to get to the information while before it was always available. Maybe it could be an option?
