SocialMail 0.0.3 Release
by Daniel on Dec.09, 2009, under SocialMail
It appears that STEEL isn’t going to be all I’d hoped for, for now at least. The release candidates only include generic non-mail related STEEL functionality which will be added at a later date.
With that in mind, I’ve spent some time on the code and replaced all the steel dependent code so that the plugin isn’t required anymore.
The code to automatically create the address book has also been written, so that no longer has to be done manually. Unfortunately this means that the current collected data will be lost/needs to be cleared to avoid duplicate entries. IMPORTANT, if you’ve used a previous version of the plugin, close thunderbird and in your thunderbird profile directory rename/delete the file “socialMailDB.sqlite”.
Keep in mind this is an alpha release, there is still a good deal of functionality to be added before doing up the documentation as things are still likely to change.
So here it is, Use at your own risk socialMail-0.03
I’m hoping for a semi-production ready release by Christmas.

Hi Daniel,
Awesome plugin… works great. I know that you are already working on improvements. I’ll still go ahead and list the errors:
1. Contact Details: Same phone numbers shown for all candidates
2. Spelling of ‘contact details’ and ‘received count’
3. Some names are not displayed. It says name unknown even though the name is specifically tagged in the email address

I’ve noticed that this plugin utilizes anormous memory. I did some testing and these are the results
TB without SocialMail: 61MB (initial) – 104MB (after 1 hr)
TB with SocialMail: 61 MB (initial) – 263MB (after 1 hr)

I love the work you’ve done so far; are you going to add options to ‘try’ to get an image for a person based on the Gravatar account?
For instance, try to find an image with Facebook and/or Gravatar – maybe as an option.
Thanks to you and your wife [for mentioning xobni];)
Thanks,
L. Henry Jr.

Hi Larry,
Good idea about Gravatar, I’ll at it to my to do list. If a profile image from facebook/linkedin/etc is available then it will be shown in the next version (this week I hope).
